The lighthouse was built in 1838 at a cost of approximately $5,000, and named after Ned Dexter, a local farmer. Ned’s Point sits at the edge of Mattapoisett Harbor, where the sheltered inner harbor opens up to the outer harbor and Buzzards Bay.
